Community Health Needs Assessment (Kent County)
During 2011, Saint Mary's Health Care identified unmet community health needs in Kent County, by conducting a Community Health Needs Assessment in collaboration with the Kent County Health Department and a number of local hospitals and organizations in Kent County.
The determination of community health needs took into account community demographics, socio-economic factors and health service utilization tends. Further, it incorporated input from community coalitions, focus groups, and surveys.
The assessment and formal report is in alignment with the federal IRS community benefit reporting requirements that affect all State-licensed 501(C) (3) hospitals. The priorities identified in the assessment have been accepted by the Saint Mary's Health Care Board of Trustees. The assessment is available for the public on the Saint Mary's Health Care website and the Kent County Health Department website.
Saint Mary’s Health Care will utilize the assessment as a guide (over the next three years) for providing programs to address identified community health needs in support of the community and the mission of the organization. Community benefit programming at Saint Mary’s Health Care will seek to function in ways that are collaborative with the overall community with special aim toward low-income and populations of greatest needs.
