Before surgery, you will attend a training session where you will view a video and receive information on what to expect before, during, and after your joint replacement surgery. You are strongly encouraged to have a friend or family member who will act as a coach as you go through the joint replacement process, beginning with the training session and continuing through your recovery once you get home. After leaving the hospital you will need someone at home to assist with dressing, getting meals, and other everyday activities for the first couple of weeks.
Instead of wearing hospital gowns, on the second day after surgery you may wear your own clothes. A block of rooms has been reserved for joint replacement patients to enable you to be in a supportive setting with other patients undergoing similar surgeries. You will participate in planned exercise therapy, both individually and as a group, to gain your mobility and independence.
