Community Benefit

Sister Simone Courtade Grant Program

The Sister Simone Courtade (formerly Strategic Initiatives for the Poor) grant program was created by the Sisters of Mercy to support, strengthen and sustain our organizational Mission in community. The specific intent of the fund is to help poor and underserved residents achieve a better quality of life by improving their health and overall well-being through investment in community programs that address quantifiable community need. All nonprofit community entities are encouraged to apply for the grant.

  • Tier I - Addresses major community health and human needs that demonstrate a direct and measurable impact on poor and underserved residents. These grants will not exceed $10,000 annually. Priority will be given to start-up funds for new and/or innovative programs. Requests will also be considered to sustain existing programs when it can be clearly demonstrated that (1) the program represents an important asset to the Greater Muskegon community; (2) no other source of funding is currently available; (3) the program will cease to function without investment resulting in potential harm to the target population; and, (4) the program has documented outcomes indicating success.

  • Tier II - Funds will support mini-grants for special projects, infrastructure enhancement, and health-specific community events/activities, with a ceiling of not more than $2,000.

The fund is administered through the Mercy Health Partners Mission Services Board Committee.

The 2012 Application - Deadline is Friday, June 1, 2012
